[Oh no!!! This is the worst! If he tells the truth and says that he doesn't know where he is, he will come hunting for him! That is even more dangerous than the efficiency of knowing where to find him. Maybe if he just doesn't reply to him, he'll be off the hook? ...No, that would perhaps be worse, giving the impression that he succumbed to the freeze and fell unconscious. But typing is also so much effort...]
I thought I could help... I am srong. I can weather a little cchill. Please do not endanger ourself on my accont.
[Oh... He had better answer this. It would be easier than typing, at least, and he's starting to reluctantly accept that he's incapable of changing Hubert's mind. But he's still stubborn, and he still has a bit of try left.]
Hubert. Please... I got m-myself into this mess. Stay.
[If Hubert is going to risk his own life searching for him no matter what he says—he can be quite stubborn, too!—then he had better work twice as hard at navigating. Giving in is absolutely not an option, and he's not one to so easily fold. He squints past the flurry and his hazy vision, trying to make out landmarks, street signs, anything that could help direct Hubert. Then, with a start he remembers that the device LIEs had given them is not only good for communication, but navigation!]
Oh! Right! Let me s-send you a map of m-my location. Give me a few m-moments... My hands are so—ahh!
[Judging by the sound of his voice fading out and the soft crunch, he totally just dropped it.]
[Hubert is already risking his life, his coat on, his gloves, boots, and He whipped a scarf over his shoulder as he took down the hallway of their apartment, towards the stairs since the elevator was no longer working.
Hubert watched Ferdinand as he tried to look around for signs, then he seemed to have dropped the phone into the snow. Cursing to himself, Hubert still hurried down the flight of stairs.]
[After a few long moments of digging through the snow with numbed fingers, he managed to scoop it out... but the call had gone abruptly silent. Ferdinand tried to apologize for his clumsiness, but it didn't go through very well, and he could barely understand enough of the tinny, garbled quality of Hubert's order. Dull panic coursed through him as he tried to adjust to this hurdle he had unintentionally created, desperately making haste to find out how to execute his eureka moment while being both frigid and from the fantasy middle ages.
Given about a minute, he manages to show him his precise location. A little ways away, he made do with a bus shelter that was definitely not devoid of snow, but better than standing in the middle of the street welcoming the brunt of the harsh weather on his person, huddled on the bench looking very lethargic.]
[As soon as Hubert got the notification of Ferdinand's whereabouts, he was rushing to him. His heart ached in his chest, not wanting to ever lose Ferdinand, not when it felt like he just finally got him back- in some weird way since he did not remember it all the first time.
Hubert had dashed out and into the blizzard, feeling the bitter cold stinging at any exposed flesh, and he held up his hand as he walked through the snow, his pace hurried so he could find Ferdinand.
Eventually, he did come to that bus stop... and he just called out as he approached.]
[Hubert's voice pulled up his eyelids. Blearily, he blinked away at the snow to pierce the piebald steel-snow haze of the city affected by his vision and pick out Hubert. A genuine fear crossed him, that he was only hearing things, and that it was a sign that perhaps he was finally succumbing to a sleep he might not wake from. However, darkness moved through the onslaught of white, and the fear rose up to become hope and relief. He scrounged the will to sit up with a wobble, the brightness his face might have been otherwise capable of emanating upon seeing him dulled, gray, and glassy, but pleased nonetheless.]
[Hubert immediately moved to the sound of Ferdinand’s faint voice, calling out in the blizzard and the cold. Hubert ran over to the bus stop, looking to where he thought Ferdinand was, and saw him- nearly frozen to death.
Hubert went to him and dropped down to a knee, his gloved hand at Ferdinand’s face, brushing some of his frozen hair out from it.]
Of course I’m here- what were you thinking?! I could have lost you!
[Hubert frowned hard, his voice taking on a dangerously low tone. He grabbed for Ferdinand, helping him up, holding him close as he now tried to pull him away from all the snow that had piled up around Ferdinand.]
[His smile fell as Hubert scolded him, and for good reason.]
I was careless. F-For that, I am s-s-sorry.
[Genuine regret shone in his eyes. He did endanger himself out here, and Hubert by extension. There had been many times in the past that Ferdinand could have been easily convinced that the callous confidant of Emperor Edelgard would not be horribly bothered about whether he lived or died, but as time and change brought them closer, it was actions like this that revealed otherwise. It touched him, to be proven again at such a dire moment that Hubert cared enough about him to risk himself, but more than that, he was painfully aware that they were not out of the deadly blizzard yet. For Hubert's sake as much as his own, he had to force himself to endure the trip home. It was hard to feel his warmth between layers, but a different sort glowed in his chest, as if it could tangibly warm him up from the inside. He reached for his lifeline's shoulders in a loose embrace, both as an expression of fondness and relief but as a way to accept and lean into his support.]
[Hubert would never leave Ferdinand, not when he loved him so dearly. They had started out as such rivals, and they still were, but with that rivalry came the feelings of tenderness and respect... and then attraction, and passion.
Ferdinand was hoisted up by Hubert, the mage underneath his arm so that he could carry him in the blizzard. The ice smacked against his face, and it was so cold everything was beginning to hurt- but he was certain that Ferdinand was going numb, and that was far worse. He walked with Ferdinand, dedicated as ever.]
Not only would I battle a blizzard for you- I would walk through hell and fire.
[He called to Ferdinand over the storm.] Speaking of, if you leave me, I will send you to said depths of hell myself!
[A sharp exhale constituted a breath of laughter at Hubert's threat.]
To die by a b-blizzard, or your hands... I had better n-not die at all!
[With Hubert propping him up, he moved his legs to walk at his side. All he needed to do now was focus on just this much, and he had hope of surviving. Soon enough, they would be back at the apartment complex.]
[Hubert pulled him quickly enough, not very far from their apartment already, and everything was freezing, going numb.]
Nearly there! Do not give up!
[And he was right, several more minutes of walking, and they were at the apartments, headed inside... to the stairs. At least while inside, it was sheltered, and much warmer than outside.]
[Ferdinand's determination saw him through the storm and back into sanctuary from it. He half felt that if he were to stop moving, he might pass out entirely. Despite that, he managed to stop, slumping into Hubert, grabbing onto him with weak hands. Their environment was a vast improvement from what it was just less than a minute prior, which aids in helping him feel a little more stabilized. Still, though, the effects of the cold grip him, and he shivers against him.]
[Hubert’s heart was still thumping in his chest, scared about what would have happened to Ferdinand, had he not been out there. He had heard that death wasn’t permanent here- but, he didn’t trust that, he wouldn’t let Ferdinand die to test such a theory.
As they walked to the stairs, they started to go up them, and Hubert looked to Ferdinand as he helped him up each step.]
Do you need to rest? I would prefer to get you to our abode, so I may cocoon you in blankets and a warm fire.
No. I can m-make it five more stories. [Briefly, he inclines his head against Hubert's shoulder in a small lean of affection.] The thought of bundling up will keep me going. W-will you even make me... some tea?
[The thought is nice, but he doesn't expect him to go out of his way to do that while he also got close to freezing to death. There are other ways of warming each other up, too.]
[A giddy sort of pleasure sparkles in his heart at the idea. He heaves a short laugh and latches tighter to his arm.]
Now my morale is ind-defatigable. [Indeed! There is a bit more pep to his step. In almost no time, they manage to make it back to their apartment, where Ferdinand remains attached.]
Before you do anything... Can we huddle together for a bit?
[It didn't even seem to matter that their relationship had blossomed into something romantic and sexual many months ago; hearing such words from Hubert's mouth got him twitterpated like he had only been courting him a week. His smile went hopelessly enamored, and the blood pumped faster through his veins. With this small burst of energy, he found it in himself to direct them over toward the couch, where there were blankets already draped and begging for use. Ferdinand lowered himself down, bringing Hubert with him, and proceeded to fight his coat's zipper so that he could take the wet, snow-dusted thing off.]
[Once inside of their apartment, he was easily led by a more energetic Ferdinand. Hubert made it to the living area with his partner- also taking off his own coat which was wet. He even helped Ferdinand to remove his own coat, since he could see he was still cold and shaking, and after their coats had been removed, Hubert was beside Ferdinand on the couch, under some blankets.
He pulled Ferdinand on top of him, laying down on the couch so the other man could be on top of fully, and Hubert hugged him tight, his face near Ferdinand's, and thus he kissed him on the cheek.]
Oh, no doubt. [Ferdinand slipped his arms around him in turn and sunk into the comfort of both his proximity and the final reassurance that he was saved and will survive, shivers still lightly agitating his form but slowly subsiding the longer he could share in the other man's warmth. With his lips molded into a smile, he returned his kiss, landing it a bit off-kilter at the corner of his mouth.] From the inside-out. Thank you, my love. This feels s-so much better than freezing out in the cold.
